History

It was in 1995 that the Quebec Foreign Mission Society (SME) arrived in Cambodia, in a country that is recovering from a terrible genocide and 15 years of foreign occupation.

The colonizing nation, Vietnam, who was of communist tendency and whose main religions are Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism, greatly influenced the local spirituality.

In a manner of facts, Christians of Cambodia live their faith in hiding it, ensuring that during the occupation.

Then, the priests and lay people of the SME who settle in Cambodia receive the mandate to consolidate and grow what remains of Christian faith in the country.

In order to resume dialogue on the faith and rebuild the Church of Cambodia, the missionaries of SME involve themselves in various projects of social justice, pastoral care and first evangelization.
