It is towards China that the first missionaries of the Quebec Foreign Mission Society (SME) decided to set sail in 1925. It is therefore the first country of mission for the SME.

However, it is also there that SME probably has the most difficulty to establish itself. Indeed, the history of the Society in this country is full of twists and turns.

The SME settled in China first in Manchuria. There, some of its members were incarcerated and the Society was banned. Several years later, SME decided to go to Hong Kong, where it is still today. Mainly because of its solidarity with the poor and the working class.
