Welcome to Pope Leo XIV

Renaude Gregoire & Service d'Animation Missionnaire de la SMÉ

The election of the new pope has brought joy and hope. Coming from the Americas—this time from the United States—he is a member of the Order of Saint Augustine, a missionary in Peru, appointed Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops in April 2023, and made a cardinal in September of the same year. Monsignor Robert Francis Prevost was elected pope on May 8, 2025. He chose the name Leo XIV, thus signaling the social dimension of his pontificate, since Pope Leo XIII is known for his encyclical Rerum Novarum, which highlights the condition of workers.

We were moved by this statement from Pope Leo XIV: “We do not need loud, forceful communication, but rather a communication capable of listening, of gathering the voice of the voiceless.”
