Missionary Formation Immersion in Honduras
As part of their missionary formation immersion in Honduras, four youths continued their initial formation with Quebec Foreign Mission Society (QFMS or SMÉ in French) with a visit to Choluteca, where the SMÉ's presence and mission in Honduras began in 1955.
Grisel Cabrera, Luningning Alvarado, and Donna Joy from the Local Group accompanied the trainees: Cristo from Mexico, Rina and Guadalupe from El Salvador, and Eduardo from Honduras. We all listened intently to the words of our fearless guide, Father Bernard Boucher, a missionary with extensive experience in Honduras.
Highlights of the visit included two homes for migrants - the Caritas Care Center “Mons. Guido Charbonneau” and "Hogar La Esperanza," founded by Mons. Guido Plante, both bishops of the SMÉ; the Major Seminary Saint Paul VI; the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception where the mortal remains of Mons. Marcelo Guerín (first bishop of Choluteca) and Mons. Guido Plante lie, and where there is a commemoration and recognition of the former seminarians "to the noble pastoral labor of the “Javerianos” Fathers from Quebec."
Many thanks to Father Bernard for hosting us, accompanying us, and for sharing the beautiful story of the SMÉ's presence in Choluteca.
