25 Years of Missionary Presence in Kenya

A Journey of Faith and Commitment
This year marks a significant milestone for the Quebec Foreign Mission Local Group in Kenya as we celebrate 25 years of missionary presence (2000-2025). Over the past quarter of a century, missionary priests and lay men and women have dedicated themselves to various ministries in Nairobi and Namanga, responding to the needs of local communities with faith, commitment, and a spirit of service.
Throughout these years, our mission has been deeply rooted in accompaniment, pastoral care, and community development. Many missionaries have come to Kenya not only to collaborate in the mission of the local church but also to discern and confirm their vocation at the Missionary Formation Centers. These centers have played a crucial role in preparing and sending missionaries to other parts of the world, ensuring that the missionary spirit continues to thrive beyond borders.
This celebration coincides with another historic event for the Quebec Foreign Mission Society (Société des Missions-Étrangères du Québec in French, abbreviated SME): the Centennial of the First Missionary Sending to Manchuria. One hundred years ago, the first missionaries of the SME arrived to this northern Chinese territory to begin their journey of courage and faith.
As we reflect on these 25 years in Kenya, we give thanks for the countless lives touched, the communities transformed, and the unwavering commitment of those who have been part of this mission. This anniversary is not only a time to celebrate but also an opportunity to renew our missionary zeal and continue walking in faith with the people we serve.
May this jubilee be a moment of gratitude, renewal, and a call to deepen our commitment to the mission entrusted to us. With hope and joy, we look forward to the future, knowing that the missionary spirit remains alive and vibrant in Kenya and beyond!
