LES MIGRANTS ET LES RÉFUGIÉS.
WORLD DAY OF MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES.
Every year, the last Sunday of September, The Church celebrates the World Day of Migrants and Refugees (WDMR). Its an opportune time to show care for diverse vulnerable migrants and refugees who are moving, to offer prayers for them as they encounter numerous challenges, and to raise awareness about the prospects that migration can bring.
The message of World Day of Migrants and Refugees, encourages local communities to embrace, understand and acknowledge immigrants and refugees as fellow humans. As Matthew 25:35 states, "I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me." This day invites us to acknowledge the holy existence in individuals who take shelter in our nation.
Answering the Call
The Church, following Jesus' example, urges us to face our prejudices and anxieties. In Leviticus (19:34), we're reminded to treat foreigners living among us as our own.
Understanding the hopes and weaknesses of immigrants and refugees is of great significance, as emphasized by the World Day of Migrants and Refugees 2023. By providing them with aid and respect, we are following in the footsteps of Jesus who showed empathy and hospitality to everyone.
Let us answer the call of World Day of Migrants and Refugees 2023 by embracing its teachings. We must tear down fear and bias, and welcome those in search of a safe haven and a brighter future. Through this act, we fulfil our Christian obligation to extend love and mercy to the most vulnerable among us. In so doing, we embody the life-changing message of Christ's love and acceptance.
The main message of World Day of Migrants and Refugees 2023.
is the call to welcome, know and recognize migrants and refugees as brothers and sisters in Christ. The Church invites local communities and newcomers to overcome fears and prejudices, and to be open to encountering the other, respecting the laws, culture and traditions of the country that welcomes them.
It also stresses the importance of understanding the hopes and vulnerabilities of migrants and refugees, and of providing them with support and dignity in their search for a better life. In this sense, World Day of Migrants and Refugees 2023 reminds us that every person who arrives at our doors is an opportunity to encounter Jesus Christ, who identifies with the welcomed and rejected foreigners of all times.
