Ecological Way of the Cross Laudate Deum in Honduras

Animación Misionera - Honduras

On Friday, March 21, in the Quezada neighborhood sector, the Laudate Deum Ecological Way of the Cross took place, an initiative promoted as part of the activities driven by the Mesoamerican Ecclesial Ecological Network (REMAM). Lay missionaries of the SME, Luningning Alvarado and Donna Tai, encouraged the community of Mary Queen of Peace Parish to carry out this Ecological Way of the Cross to raise awareness among communities about the environmental crisis and the call to ecological conversion that Pope Francis highlighted in his recent exhortation Laudate Deum. This activity continues the Ecological Holy Hour held last year in the Arturo Quezada and Nueva Jerusalén neighborhoods, reinforcing the community’s commitment to integral ecology and ecological spirituality.

The community responsible for organizing this first Way of the Cross was that of the Israel Sur neighborhood, which, with devotion and commitment, guided the participants in this reflection on Christ's Passion and its connection to the care of our Common Home. Each station of this Way of the Cross not only evokes Christ's suffering but also that of Creation in the face of excessive resource exploitation and ecological injustices that affect the most vulnerable.

The next gathering will take place in the Nueva España community, where young people from the altar servers' group will be responsible for organizing and leading the activity. Subsequently, the Way of the Cross will continue in the Nueva Jerusalén community, spreading this message of faith and ecological commitment throughout the parish.

REMAM, founded on October 2, 2019, in Mexico City, responds to the concerns of indigenous peoples, ecclesial movements, and diocesan representatives regarding the integral care of our Common Home. With the objective of being "the network that, from the heart of the Church, is called to protect life in its fullness," its work focuses on defending nature and promoting integral ecology in the Mesoamerican region.

Through activities like this Ecological Way of the Cross, REMAM and parish communities strengthen their commitment to environmental justice and ecological spirituality, fostering greater awareness and action in favor of our Common Home.
